Good vibrations from the BUFF® Scott MTB Team in Costa Blanca Bike Race

Last weekend, the new BUFF® SCOTT MTB TEAM premiered its MTB competition season with the Costa Blanca Bike Race and managed to place well in both its male and female categories. This is a four-day race which runs through the Costa Blanca in Alicante – from Finestrat to Polop – and which has a feature which makes it unique: it is the only Spanish trial which is disputed by teams.

Among the 500 cyclists who participated in the event, the BUFF® SCOTT MTB TEAM was divided into three pairs: the first was made up of Ismael Ventura and Enrique Morcillo, the second was Joan Llordella and Adrià Noguera, and the third was Ramona Gabriel and Paula Quiñones.

In the first leg of the competition, which runs 45 km through Finestrat, Ventura and Morcillo came in fifth, the first Spanish team and just a few seconds away from climbing onto the podium. For their part, Llordella and Noguera gave it their all and came in tenth place. In the women’s category, the pair made up of Gabriel and Quiñones finished the first leg in seventh place.

Noguera and Llordella

The second leg, which runs from Altea to Albir, tested the physical stamina of the members of the BUFF® SCOTT MTB TEAM in the time-trial 11-km climb, which has the steepest 2-km-long asphalted ramp in the country (grade of 38-40%). Llordella and Noguera yet again proved their potential by coming in fifth, while the team made up of Ventura and Morcillo arrived barely 20 second later, landing them in seventh. Gabriel and Quiñones remained in seventh place.

The third leg runs a total distance of 55 km with a vertical gain of 1500 m, unquestionably one of the hardest legs in the race. Ventura and Morcillo ended in fourth place – just two seconds from the podium – even though Ventura fell at km 2. Llordella and Noguera ended up in tenth place again – lagging two minutes behind the first-place team. And the female duo remained in seventh place, which they also retained during the 4th and final leg of the race.

The fourth leg, which was raced on Sunday and put an end to four days of heated competition, ran 40 km with a vertical gain of 1622 m. In this leg, Llordella and Noguera kept pedalling hard to come in seventh place in the rankings. Ultimately, Ventura and Morcillo were unable to finish the race because of the pain Ventura felt from his fall the day before.

  2. RAMONA GABRIEL / PAULA QUIÑONES _ Total time: 12:28:19.

The new BUFF® SCOTT MTB TEAM is made up of a perfect combination of experienced and promising young MTB riders and is the outcome of pooled efforts and a major impetus by the leading brands in their respective segments: Original BUFF® and SCOTT, with proven experience in competition and their own team in this discipline. The next race on the team’s calendar will be February at the Andalucía Bike Race.
