Eleven members of the BUFF® PRO TEAM will take part in four of the seven races of this year’s world summit of trail-running: UTMB® 2019, which will take place from 26 to 30 August in the unparalleled and magic setting of Chamonix Mont-Blanc.
Zach Miller, Pau Capell, Marcin Świerc, Ian Sharman and Eugeni Roselló are the elite athletes who will take on the UTMB® – the ultimate test with a distance of 170 km and an elevation gain of 10,000 m. Amanda Basham will take part in the CCC®, a unique race amidst nature with a distance of 101 km and an elevation gain of 6,100 m. Ernest Ausiró is tasked with representing the brand in the TDS®. The most technical and wildest of the races, it boasts a distance of 145 km and an elevation gain of 9,100 m. Last but not least, Andreu Simón, Eugeni Gil, Mónica Comas and Martyna Kantor will take part in the OCC®, the fastest race with a total distance of 52 km and an elevation gain of 3,500 m. All runners will be competing in official BUFF® PRO TEAM products.
What’s more, exclusively for this world-class test, BUFF® has designed seven neck and headwear accessories, which will be available online and at specific points of sale in Chamonix during the event. The star products are the headband and the revolutionary multifunctional tubular created using Coolnet® UV+, a fabric made from recycled plastic bottles which keeps the user cool and dry. What’s more, it offers protection from sun radiation, which is fundamental for outdoor sports.
The brand will reinforce its commitment to the environment at the UTMB® through various activities it will organise throughout the event. As part of this commitment, BUFF® will set up two plastic bottle recycling spaces. To encourage the public to recycle, the brand will offer surprise gifts ranging from in-store and online discounts to prizes at the event itself.
Furthermore, the brand will donate €3,000 to the OCEAN INITIATIVES project, promoted by Surfrider Foundation Europe, which is devoted to cleaning up and collecting plastic from beaches, rivers, lakes, oceans and seas around Europe. This will be carried out through the EOCA, the European Outdoor Conservation Association, with which BUFF® has collaborated since 2011 on a range of environmental projects.
The UTMB® is one of the biggest and also most challenging and demanding races of all events in the mountain-race year. The effort and dedication of the members of the BUFF® PRO TEAM has led them to succeed in past years, including Núria Picas making it to the podium at the UTMB® 2017 and Marcin Świerc taking first place in last year’s TDS® race.
